In honor of the launch of ERC’s new microsite, ERCHeroes.com, we’re starting the new year off with a few ideas on how to be a hero for your company in 2009:
- Update Policy and Forms
On November 17, 2008, the Department of Labor issued the final regulations on the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). These changes will require employers to amend their current policies and forms in order to remain compliant. These changes are effective on January 16, 2009. - Update Job Descriptions
On September 25, 2008, President Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008. This act is effective on January 1, 2009. These amendments will expand the number of individuals who qualify for protection under the ADA. This would be an opportune time become familiar with the Job Accommodation Network and update job descriptions to include essential job duties. - Review and Update Employee Handbook
This is a great time to update a handbook that maybe hasn’t been looked at in years, especially in the light of all the legislative changes happening. A good handbook can help limit or lower your risk of employment liability. More importantly, it is an important part of the on-boarding process as it helps communicate the organization’s culture to new hires. - Leap a Tall Building
Well you might not be able to leap a tall building but you may have to climb a ladder to post the new Ohio Minimum Wage and FMLA posters! - Attend an ERC Legal Update
Are you asking yourself when can you find the time to do the research? Heroes often have sidekicks to assist them! Attend the next ERC Legal Update: Overview of Changes to the FMLA and ADA.
